Do PLM's disturb deep sleep?

All of the specialists I have spoken to say that the PLMs ( Periodic Limb Movements ) from PLMD do not disturb my sleep and that 300+ times a night I am disturbed from deep sleep by Idiopathic_Hypersomnia. ( I was also disturbed 300+ times a night from deep sleep by Sleep Apnea before I started using a CPAC machine). However some people think that the PLMs from PLMD are disturbing my deep sleep. This could mean that I may not have Idiopathic_Hypersomnia?

Earier this year I increased my medication from 1 mg Pergolide and 1 tablets of Synamet CR to also include 1.25 tablets of Synamet CR at lunch time plus take a 20 minute nap. Now I feel like I may have problems with Augmentation due to the higher level of Synamet CR.

I am about to follow up the specialist suggestion that I take Ritalin. It appears to be helpful and make wake me up during the day. This also increases my Dopamine level and hopefully this may allow me to reduce my use of Synamet CR reducing the risk of Augmentation. I did suffer from Augmentation on 3 tablets of Synamet CR in 2001 and 3mg of Pergolide in 2004.

I would like any helpful comment on PLM's distrubing sleep and any comments on Ritalin and Augmentation with Synamet CR and Pergolide.

Should you have a TV in the Bedroom?

Should you have a TV in the Bedroom? All the specialists appear to say no. Bed is for sex and sleep. It should not be used for anything that you associate with being awake. This is sound advice and if you have Insomnia or any sleeping problem where you have trouble going to sleep then again do not have a TV in the bedroom.

But I have Restless Leg Syndrome, Periodic Limb Movement Disorder, Sleep Apnea and Idiopathic Hypersomnia. I go to sleep in about 1/2 an hour. If I watch TV in bed I will dose off and often have very little memory of the program. If my Restless Legs (and arms ) were playing up it would distract me from this and help me go to sleep. My wife has Fibromyalgia which includes sleeping problems. Again the TV helps her relax so it is easier for her to go to sleep after watching the TV in bed.

My conclusion is that if you have Insomnia or trouble going to sleep and the TV will keep you awake then do not watch TV in bed. But if the TV helps you relax or distracts you from problems that might keep you awake or the TV helps you nod off then I believe TV in bed is a good thing. I would like positive feed back from both points of view.

I have sever Restless Leg Syndrome, Periodic Limb Movement Disorder and also Sleep Apnea and Idiopathic Hypersomnia. I see the specialist giving their point of view and sometimes I see an alturnate point of view. I am creating this Blog to encourage people to express both sides of each issue in a positive manor. I would like to see positive results from each point of view and have a few issued that I would like to discuss. I also encourage you to add any items you would like input on. I believe strongly that an open Group discussion will give a better result than any one person on their own.

I was diagnosed with Restless Leg Syndrome ( in both arms and legs ) and Periodic Limb Movement Disorder ( I jerk every 30 seconds )in about 1998. I started on Synamet CR until it stopped working. Jan 2003 I reached 3mg Pergolide and had a COMPLETE cure. I woke up wide awake and did complex programming until 10:30pm. But Augmentation occurred and by December 2004 I stopped programming at 8pm. I switched to Amantidine which did no work. 2008 I started using Requip. When I increased from 5 to 6 tablets a day it got worse. I woke up about 4am and could not return to sleep. I then tried Pergolide again as sometimes this will work again for a while but not in my case. Assuming that more than 1.5mg a day can cause Augmentation I changed to 1 mg Pergolide and 1.25 tablets of Synamet CR. I also take 2 Panadine with this at 9pm and at bed time 1 panadine and 2 DHC ( I can not take codine directly as it hypes me up ). I also take Magnesium Citrate in the morning ( a muscle relaxant ). If I miss the bedtime panadine and DHC I may as well not go to work the next day as I will  not do anything useful.

I went to a sleep clinic Feb 2010 and was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea and Idiopathic_Hypersomnia. I am aroused about 44 times per hour with 26 due to Sleep Apnea and 18 due to Idiopathic_Hypersomnia. They did not do both legs and did not confirm if PLMs caused these arousles. I will normally wake up 1 to 3 am and agin at 3 to 4:50 am and get up at 5:30am 7 days a week. I now also take 1.25mg Pergolide at 12pm and a 20 minute nap.
